Probing the effectiveness and accountability of private financing through the effective development cooperation lens

September 28, 2018

People’s organisations and civil society organisations (CSOs) have previously expressed concerns over the role of private sector in terms of its implication to development and development cooperation. Critics have already warned that such neoliberal instrumentality disrespects people’s rights and environmental standards for the sake of profit-driven development. Decades-long experiences of communities, like energy projects in indigenous and rural communities, are quite telling how corporate projects and investments curtail their rights to development and stifle their collective dignity as a people.

As a way of amplifying people's voices on these issues, CPDE is hosting a policy session at the People's Global Conference against the IMF and the World Bank. The session entitled "Probing the effectiveness and accountability of private financing through the effective development co-operation lens" seeks to engage representatives from various countries and sectors to showcase the challenges and issues they face against the private sector finance and IFIs as well as chart ways forward through EDC on how we can disassemble this development paradigm.

The CPDE session at the PGC will be at Radio Republik Indonesia, Densapar, Bali, Indonesia and will happen on the 11th of October from 9:00am to 12:00nn.
